CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL IN THE ROME METRO
RESPIRO
Il corpo in movimento
SYNOPSIS
Breath is a bridge that connects the body to thoughts.
Breath is the act with which we assert our existence and
let's take up space.
By breathing, we give volume and substance to space itself, precisely through our bodies. Breath is our connection to the environment, a metaphor for our unique being, yet inextricably linked to the surrounding universe. Breath is creative exhalation.
Dance and music interact dynamically, exchanging guidance and suggesting atmospheres and moods.
Artists navigate, exploring the symbolism linked to the act of breathing, painting imaginary landscapes rich in suggestion and emotion.
BIOGRAPHY
DONATELLA PATINO (choreographer)
She trained with leading figures of the Limon Dance Company (Nina Watt and Libby Nye, among others) in Italy, France, and Germany, as well as with Jean Cebron. Her encounter with Simone Forti and her work with Andè Peck were pivotal. For several years, she closely followed Gustavo Frigerio's work on voice and movement. From the beginning, she combined her work as a performer with that of a composer. As a composer and choreographer, her research has always focused on the relationship between dance and music, leveraging the collaboration and on-stage presence of musicians. Her choreography has been performed in the most prestigious theater and music venues (Auditorium Parco della Musica, Teatro Petrella in Longiano, Discoteca di Stato Teatro Salauno, Teatro Caio Melisso in Spoleto, Teatro Vascello, Teatro Olimpico in Rome); her work is also featured on the RomaEuropa Foundation's Dance platform.
He teaches composition and movement research in the MiBAC training program at IALS in Rome. He creates choreographies and performances with some of the most significant musicians on the Italian contemporary and jazz scene, from Paolo Damiani to Sylvano Bussotti, from Vittorio Gelmetti to Massimo Coen, as well as with Musica Verticale, Nicola Alesini, Michelangelo Lupone, Enrico Cocco, and Marco Testoni, and, in particular, with Gabriele Coen.
He collaborated with artists such as Renato Mambor, Achille Pace, and Giustina Prestanto, with whom he maintained a special artistic partnership that lasted until the artist's passing, creating performances and installations that have spawned publications and a documentary film produced by Rai International. A key event was his encounter with Andrea Olsen, who authorized him to teach his "Experiential Anatomy" method.
GABRIELE COEN
Saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer Gabriele Coen has been dedicated for thirty years to the intersection of jazz and ethnic music, particularly Mediterranean and Eastern European, performing extensively both nationally and internationally. He holds a degree in saxophone from the "Morlacchi" Conservatory in Perugia and a degree in "Professional Specialization in Jazz and Contemporary Music" from the Siena Jazz Association. He is the founder of KlezRoym - the most famous Italian group dedicated to the revival of Jewish musical heritage - with which he recorded 6 albums for the CNI label (Klezroym - 1998, Scenì - 2000, Yankele nel ghetto – 2002, Klezroym – 2003, Venticinqueaprile (2007)- Klezroym (2016). From 1996 to 2004 he collaborated assiduously with “I Solisti di Roma” with which he proposed an unprecedented meeting between saxophone and string quartet, often performing world premieres (D.Nicolau, F. Cifariello Ciardi, M.Coen). As a leader he carries out several projects, in particular: Gabriele Coen “Jewish Experience”, one of the most typical contemporary jazz groups as a driving force of a musical journey in which the Jewish popular repertoire is reinterpreted in a jazz key, through original compositions, Klezmer and Sephardic (Hebrew-Spanish) pieces. Their first album, “Golem,” was released in 2009 on Alfamusic, distributed by Egea. Their new album, “Awakening,” was released in August 2010, produced by John Zorn for Tzadik, the prestigious New York record label. “Yiddish Melodies in Jazz,” again proudly produced by John Zorn’s Tzadik, was released in January 2013. Their new work, “Sephirot. Kabbalah in Music,” was released in June 2017 for Parco della Musica Records, featuring Gabriele Coen as the lead singer of his new sextet, which delves into the world of electricity and spiritualism.
